Puerto Escondido

A Heart-Wrenching Coming-of-Age Tale Where Grief Meets the Healing Power of the Ocean

When sixteen-year-old Alejandro loses his best friend Davey in a tragic car accident, the waves that once brought him joy become painful reminders of everything he's lost. Unable to touch his surfboard for months, Alejandro drowns in his depression until his desperate mother makes a life-changing decision: send him to live with his father in Puerto Escondido, Mexico's legendary surf town.

In this sun-drenched coastal paradise, Alejandro must navigate more than just the thunderous waves of Zicatela beach. He discovers a world of new friendships, family bonds, and an unexpected romance with Daniela—a captivating local girl with emerald eyes who knows as much about surfing as she does about healing hearts. But when jealousy and violence threaten to destroy everything he's building, Alejandro must choose between running from his pain or facing it head-on.

As he trains for Puerto Escondido's amateur surf tournament, Alejandro learns that sometimes the most powerful waves aren't the ones that crash against the shore, but the ones that crash within ourselves. With his father as his guide and the memory of his best friend as his inspiration, he embarks on a journey that will test not only his courage in the water, but his ability to love and trust again.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Oaxaca's coast, Puerto Escondido is a deeply moving story about loss, healing, and the unbreakable bonds that connect us across cultures and beyond death itself. It's a tale that will resonate with anyone who has ever lost someone they love and had to find the strength to keep living.

Perfect for readers of young adult fiction, surf culture enthusiasts, and anyone drawn to stories of resilience and cross-cultural connection.
